Walking in Puglia
Fascinating and uncrowded, Puglia offers a host of attractions, including several deserted Greek and Roman ruins, lively fishing villages, one of Europe's largest forests, a chain of medieval hilltowns, and some of the cleanest beaches and water in the Mediterranean. It even boasts its own style of architecture, barocco leccese, featuring ornately carved facades on churches and palazzi which you'll discover in the delightful little city of Lecce. One other attraction you'll see only in Puglia are the trulli. Whitewashed cones of unmortared stone, they dot the Pugliese landscape, where they serve as miniature barns. You'll also see them clustered together to form the town of Alberobello, a wonderful site you'll never forget.

Itinerary Outline

- Day one: You are met by your guide at the train station upon your arrival in Lecce. After settling into your accommodations for the night, you enjoy a tour of the town - rightly famed as the Florence of the South.
- Day two: In the morning you take a walk with your guide in the countryside surrounding Lecce. In the afternoon, you visit the quaint seaside village of Otranto. Night in Lecce.
- Day three: Today you transfer to Matera in the nearby region of Basilicata, where the film "Christ Stopped at Eboli" was shot. Along the way, you visit Ostuni, the white city, and Arberobello, famous for the trulli (round houses with cone shaped roofs).
- Day four: You enjoy a walk in the countryside near Matera, and then spend the afternoon exploring this intriguing city of caves carved into the bare rock.
- Day five: In the morning you drive to Trani on the Pugliese coastline and spend the day admiring the crystal blue Mediterranean water. Late afternoon finds you to Bari where you discover the charming old town.
- Day six: After breakfast, your guide helps you on your way to the train station with easy connections to Rome and Milan.
